If it feels like winter has made a fourth (or fifth?) comeback this year, you’re not alone. With what feels like four metres of snow still hanging around, spring might seem more like a rumour than a reality. But here’s the thing—while Mother Nature is taking her time, employers aren’t. Seasonal job opportunities are already starting to open up, and hiring is ramping up fast.

In industries across our region—construction, forestry, tourism, landscaping, retail, hospitality, and more—employers are getting ready for a busy season ahead. That means now is the time to start preparing, even if you’re still stepping over snowbanks to get to your car.

So, how do you get ahead of the curve?

Start with your resume. If it’s been a while since you’ve updated it, take the time to refresh your experience, highlight new skills, and tailor it toward the type of seasonal work you’re looking for. Even small updates can make a big difference when employers are reviewing applications quickly.

Next, think about your availability and goals. Are you looking for full-time seasonal work? Part-time? Something that could turn into long-term employment? Being clear on what you want will help you focus your search and communicate confidently with employers.

It’s also a great time to brush up on interview skills. Seasonal hiring often moves quickly, so being prepared to speak about your experience, reliability, and willingness to learn can help you stand out. Employers value candidates who are ready to hit the ground running—yes, even if that ground is still frozen.

Most importantly, don’t go it alone. Connecting with an Employment Coordinator at REHC can give you a real advantage. From resume support to job matching and interview prep, we’re here to help you feel confident and ready to step into the season ahead.

Spring will show up eventually—we promise. And when it does, you’ll want to be ready.
