Garbage Thrower/ Labourer

Villeneuve Construction is seeking a dependable and hardworking Garbage Thrower/ Labourer to support our operations in Wawa. This role primarily involves picking up residential and commercial garbage’s. and requires someone who is safety-focused, adaptable, and comfortable working in diverse outdoor environments.
Key Responsibilities
Pick up residential and commercial garbage
Follow the scheduled route set out daily Monday to Friday and make adjustments as required during holidays or other events as per directed by dispatch or a supervisor.
Reporting any accidents, injuries.
Respecting the bylaw in order to pick up and dispose of all waste that isn’t indicated otherwise.
Communicate with dispatcher or assigned supervisor if there is changes or challenges during the daily route.
Complete all required paperwork such as pick up locations complete and timesheets.
Tag garbage bins to inform customers of problems such as if they exceeded their bag limit or if there were items not permitted.
When performing Traffic Control:
Control traffic passing near, in, and around work zones.
Read and understand site-specific instructions prior to directing traffic.
Work from a location where you can see and be seen by all traffic.
Stop traffic as required by work progress or traffic flow.
Communicate effectively with other Traffic Control Workers
Ensure functionality of all communications equipment prior to directing traffic.
Maintain alertness at all times.
Direct motorists to drive at low speeds through the specified area(s).
Report dangerous motorists to the supervisor.
Ensure the clean, visible, and safe condition of all protective materials.
Use appropriate traffic control signage in the approved manner.
Provide motorists with clear, simple directions, answering questions in a brief, polite manner.
When performing Labour duties:
Review and understand the tasks at hand and the equipment that will be moving in and out of the worksite.
Ensure appropriate tools are transported to the worksite. Ensure proper functioning off all tools prior to utilization.
Set up traffic control plan according to the supervisor’s instructions
Apply knowledge of appropriate materials, methods, and the tools required in various construction processes.
Provide manual labour assistance in the successful completion of construction projects from start to finish.
Required Skills & Role
High school diploma or equivalent (post-secondary education in a related field is an asset).
Previous experience in general labour, construction, or traffic control is preferred.
Ability to safely operate various tools and equipment.
Physically fit with the ability to lift heavy objects and work in demanding conditions.
Comfortable working in outdoor environments, including extreme weather.
Strong verbal communication and active listening skills.
Reliable, punctual, and highly organized with good time management skills.
Able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Must hold a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel as required.
Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug test in accordance with company policy.
