Job Description
Located at the Wesdome Site
Core Cutter Position
Schedule: 2 weeks on/2 weeks off
Positions: 1 position (2 people cross-shifting)
Scope:
Core Retrieval
Remove core boxes from the front yard and transport them to the deck.
Organize core boxes into groups of ten and position them securely against the wall.
Racking Process
After all core boxes are on deck, set up sawhorses and bring in the boxes.
Open boxes using an approved cutting tool.
Insert each core box into its designated rack slot.
Arrange boxes in ascending order, starting from top to bottom and left to right, similar to reading order. Apply the same method when loading geologist tables.
Place empty boxes in the designated storage area, inverted and neatly stacked.
Cutting Procedure
Remove core from the core shack and bring it into the cutting room.
Write the sample numbers required onto sample bags.
Mark the core samples to be cut with a yellow lumber crayon along one side of the core box to ensure accurate cuts.
Turn on the saw.
Place a piece of core into the guide, aligning the yellow line slightly offset to the center of the guide; cut to the left of the line.
Take the sample tag and remove the half with the sample number; place it into the corresponding sample bag. Secure the other half (with meterage) to the bottom of the core box using staples at the start of the sample.
Push the guide along the rails gently but firmly, maintaining even pressure as the blade cuts through the core.
Place the top half of the sample into the corresponding sample bag; return the bottom half to the core box.
Repeat until all samples are cut.
Place completed sample bags on the table and prepare the next set. When cutting quartz, clean the blade with the grinding stone.
Position the core boxes on a pallet in front of the cutting room for transport to the core field.
After cutting is complete, turn off the saw and prepare samples for shipping. Send an email indicating: Number of samples, Start and end sample numbers

Place samples into the pick-up bin next to the cutting shack.
Clean the cutting shack to remove excessive dust.
Store the respirator in a clean area to prevent contamination.
Exploration Hole Management
Tag and store all exploration holes as required.
Use the core racks or pallets outside the core cutting room to store core boxes after cutting is complete.
When the hole is finished, contact the loader operator or designated personnel via radio to relocate the loaded pallet to its proper location.
All core boxes on pallets must be secured with a ratchet strap(s).
Required Skills & Role
Requirements: Able to perform physically demanding work, basic math abilities, secure core boxes to a pallet, operate a pickup on surface (to dispose of water containers and slimes)
Reports To: Sr. Geologist on shift
Working Conditions: working alone in a core cutting room, on surface. Must be fitted for a respirator, wear appropriate hearing protection, gloves, and eye protection.
