Core Cutter Position

Schedule: 2 weeks on/2 weeks off

Positions: 1 position (2 people cross-shifting)

Scope:

Core Retrieval

  • Remove core boxes from the front yard and transport them to the deck.

  • Organize core boxes into groups of ten and position them securely against the wall.

Racking Process

  • After all core boxes are on deck, set up sawhorses and bring in the boxes.

  • Open boxes using an approved cutting tool.

  • Insert each core box into its designated rack slot.

  • Arrange boxes in ascending order, starting from top to bottom and left to right, similar to reading order. Apply the same method when loading geologist tables.

  • Place empty boxes in the designated storage area, inverted and neatly stacked.

Cutting Procedure

  • Remove core from the core shack and bring it into the cutting room.

  • Write the sample numbers required onto sample bags.

  • Mark the core samples to be cut with a yellow lumber crayon along one side of the core box to ensure accurate cuts.

  • Turn on the saw.

  • Place a piece of core into the guide, aligning the yellow line slightly offset to the center of the guide; cut to the left of the line.

  • Take the sample tag and remove the half with the sample number; place it into the corresponding sample bag. Secure the other half (with meterage) to the bottom of the core box using staples at the start of the sample.

  • Push the guide along the rails gently but firmly, maintaining even pressure as the blade cuts through the core.

  • Place the top half of the sample into the corresponding sample bag; return the bottom half to the core box.

  • Repeat until all samples are cut.

  • Place completed sample bags on the table and prepare the next set. When cutting quartz, clean the blade with the grinding stone.

  • Position the core boxes on a pallet in front of the cutting room for transport to the core field.

  • After cutting is complete, turn off the saw and prepare samples for shipping. Send an email indicating: Number of samples, Start and end sample numbers

    • Example: No. of Samples: 34 | Sample No.: 155200–155234

  • Place samples into the pick-up bin next to the cutting shack.

  • Clean the cutting shack to remove excessive dust.

  • Store the respirator in a clean area to prevent contamination.

Exploration Hole Management

  • Tag and store all exploration holes as required.

  • Use the core racks or pallets outside the core cutting room to store core boxes after cutting is complete.

  • When the hole is finished, contact the loader operator or designated personnel via radio to relocate the loaded pallet to its proper location.

  • All core boxes on pallets must be secured with a ratchet strap(s).
