Job Description
Boart Longyear is currently recruiting for Underground Driller Assistants to join the team for multi-year contracts. This physically demanding position offers an opportunity to work with a global leader in drilling services supporting mining, exploration, environmental, and infrastructure projects.
Compensation:
Hourly Wage: $24.90/hr - $30.71/hr plus bonus
Job Responsibilities:
Safety is PARAMOUNT in our business. You must follow all established policies, procedures and best practices as well as the law at all times
Perform all duties safely while taking care of equipment and co-workers
Responsible for the general condition and obtaining optimum life out of all site equipment and tools
May be responsible for training new Driller Assistants in a safe environment
Be physically fit for work.
Work under instructions of a driller/drilling field supervisor or division manager
Work safely and follow EHS policies and procedures and conduct local risk control
Have the ability to apply first aid
Support drilling operations including handling rods and drilling tools, collecting and handling samples, mixing drilling fluids, basic maintenance, housekeeping, supply counts, measurements, calculations, pre-start checks, and refueling
May be required to operate non-drilling equipment such as light or heavy vehicles, cranes, telehandlers, forklifts, skidders, and track-mounted utility vehicles
Monitor workplace safety and apply risk management processes
Maintain accurate operating records including daily drill reports and inventory logs.
Contribute to and establish effective workplace relationships
Provide training through instruction, coaching, and mentoring to other field employees.
Required Skills & Role
High school diploma or equivalent
Valid First Aid Certificate.
Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to perform job-related tasks
Labour background considered an asset.
2+ years of directly related experience
Exposure to different drilling environments and techniques is preferred
Must meet Fitness for Duty program standards
Common Core certification (records must be submitted)
Strong commitment to workplace safety
Ability to work in physically demanding environments
Strong teamwork and communication skills
