POSITION: Pharmacy Technician
STATUS: Permanent Full-time
DEPARTMENT: Pharmacy
RATE: $35.27- $39.53
SHIFTS: ASAP
To perform dispensing functions complete with necessary calculations. To undertake purchasing and narcotic control and replenish ward stock. Must be willing to acquire and maintain certification with Ontario College of Pharmacists, Continuing Education.
Responsibilities
Dispensing medications from the pharmacy, maintaining ward stock, mixing chemotherapy drugs, narcotic control, purchasing drugs
Assist Director with maintaining and updating policies related to the distribution of medications.
Demonstrate accuracy in the performance of technical tasks.
Observe hospital rules regarding the handling of confidential information.
Participate on committees as required, provide consultation as required
Disseminate to staff any changes in the pharmacy program
Develop a pharmacy Quality plan as per the College of pharmacy of Ontario’s regulation and assessment criteria.
Observe Hospital and Departmental Rules and Regulations, Policies, Procedures, Practices and current legislation in particular safety procedures and the Human Rights Code regarding discrimination and harassment and safety procedures
All other duties as assigned by the Manager of Clinical and Community Services.
To perform all dispensing functions independently as per procedures for hospital patients, Long
Term Care Residents
To supply ward stock according to department procedures
To mix chemo solutions, using laminar flow head.
To maintain adequate level of stock
To maintain an accurate count at all times
To supply all nursing units with ward stocks of Narcotic and Controlled drugs according to department procedures
To maintain an adequate level of pharmaceuticals in the Pharmacy at all times
To maintain crash cart supplies throughout the hospital
To place purchase orders and arrange return of expired pharmaceuticals
To receive and code pharmaceuticals according to departmental/hospital procedures
To perform the above duties within Pharmacy Drug Budget
To assume any other functions as may be required by the immediate Supervisor or management.
Required Skills & Role
Secondary School Graduation Diploma and successful completion of Pharmacy Technician Programs
Approved by the Ontario College of Pharmacists.
Hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
Registration with the College of Pharmacists as Registered Technician
Ability to maintain harmonious interdepartmental relationships and willingness to respond productively to supervision.
Ability to identify error, recognize limitations and judge situations which require referral to a pharmacist or as appropriate.
Ability to work accurately, quickly, efficiently, and independently organizes workload.
Exhibit an appropriate level of care reflecting courtesy, responsiveness, helpfulness and communication in relations with patients, visitors and staff.
Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs
Knowledge of pharmaceutical related software.
Ability to comprehend and follow instructions and take direction from Pharmacists.
Ability to organize and prioritize workloads and respond to emergency situations.
Bilingual; English and French is considered an asset.

Company Information
The Lady Dunn Health Centre is a multi-service facility located east of the north shore of Lake Superior. Our catchment area has a population of just over 4,300 which includes the communities of Dubreuilville, Hawk Junction, Michipicoten First Nation, Michipicoten Township-Wawa, Missanabie, and White River.
The Health Centre includes ten acute care, two respite and sixteen long term care beds. We operate a 24-hour emergency department, staffed by a Registered Nurse and an on-call Physician. We also provide a Surgical Program, Diagnostic and Therapeutic services, Telehealth and a Nurse Practitioner Program.
Our community service program includes North Algoma Counselling Service, North Algoma Diabetes Education Program, and outreach nursing clinics in the communities of Dubreuilville and Missanabie.
Other on-site services that operate as separate entities are the Wawa Medical Centre, Wawa Family Health Team, Ontario Health AtHome and the Paramedic Services of Algoma.
